Capitol Building / Re: Cabinet list

The Reich is most humbled and honored by the trust Präsidentin Warren has placed in us, and would like to put forth distinguished SS-Obergruppenführer Stefan Ramseur, recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, with swords and oak leaves, for service in the Theocratic Revolt and the Columbia-Hightah conflict, as nominee.

We have no doubt that, as secretary, he will continue to exercise his impeccable administrative skills and, if necessary, talents for strategic and tactical command.

Heil Warren! Ehre, Amerikanisches Reiches! Ehre, Confederates!

Welcome to NCSA Sports News on this SUPER SPORTS SATURDAY!

We had a lot of action today on sports field across the NCSA.

We start today's broadcast with basketball.
For that we go to the Hilton Arena in Harald City for the match between the Diddyland Pilots and the West Phoenician Scorpions.
The Pilots' Gene Gomez lead the way to a 111-106 victory, scoring 26 points.
This leaves the standings as follows:
1 - Diddyland Pilots                       - 2 wins
2 - West Phoenician Scorpions(c) - 0
A tough start to the season for the current champions from West Phoenicia. They have some catching up to do.

From basketball we switch to football.

The Frijstaater Flames beat the Diddyland Blue Devils by 38 - 17 in front of their own crowd in the Metro Arena in Felsenburg.
Flames RB Benjamin Pfeiffer played the probably best match of his career, rushing for 130 yards and 3 touchdowns, and, as if that wasn't enough, also receiving for 93 yards and another touchdown. Absolutely amazing stuff!

In the Battlegrounds (Palmetto Airlines Stadium), the Charlotte Paratroopers lost their home game against the Fensite Sharks by 29-41.
Sharks QB Erick Hill had an outstanding match, probably also the best of his career, completing 25/31 throws for 390 yards and 5 touchdowns!

Finally, in the Gwinnett Sports Complex, the Coastal Crusaders lost yet another match. This time they lost against the West Phoenician War Dancers by 26 - 7.
The Crusaders are still waiting for the first victory in their franchise's history.
War Dancers QB James Emanon had a good game, completing 20 of his 26 throws for 287 yards, 1 touchdown, but also 1 interception.

So here are the NCSA football league standings:
1 - West Phoenician War Dancers - 2 wins
2 - Frijstaater Flames                     - 2
3 - Diddyland Blue Devils(c)          - 1
4 - Fensite Sharks                         - 1
5 - The Coastal Crusaders            - 0
6 - Charlotte Paratroopers             - 0

Now we switch to baseball.
Here's an overview of today's matches:

Plantation stadium, Deception Bay
West Phoenician Confederates - 0 3 0 0 0 0 0 2 1 x - 6
Fensiti Lions                              - 0 2 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 4

Patriot Field in Frystone, Columbia
Frijstaater Flame - 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 1
Columbia Rebels - 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 x - 2
The 2 points scored by the Rebels in the first inning proved to be enough to win the match.

Downtown Stadium
The Diddyland Lions - 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 - 2
San Fran Runners    - 1 0 1 0 0 2 2 1 x - 7

So here are the standings for the NCSA baseball league:
1 - Columbia Rebels                       - 2 wins
2 - West Phoenician Confederates - 2
3 - Fensiti Lions                              - 1
4 - San Fran Runners                     - 1
5 - Diddyland Lions(c)                     - 0
6 - Frijstaater Flame                        - 0
The reigning champions from Diddyland, who had gone unbeaten last season, have yet to win a game this season.

And so, for a last time today, we switch sports. Now we go to hockey!

At the Metro Arena in Felsenburg, Frijstaat, the Frijstaater Hedgehogs lost to the West Phoenician Heatwaves by 2-3.
The Hedgehogs got the lead in the first period, and Peter Neumann extended that lead to a 2-0 in the second period after an assist from Jason Shuhmacher.
But the third period belonged to the Heatwaves, and short before the end of the match, Alan Cook was able to tie the match!
In the end, the Heatwaves won the match in overtime.

For the last match of this broadcast, we go to the Disney Arena in Othmarschen, Diddyland, where the Diddyland Freezers lost 2-3 against the Cream Pies.
After a scoreless first period, Ethan Knight assisted the Cream Pies' first goal of the game, but the freezers could also score a minute afterwards.
Taylor French gave the Freezers the lead in the third period after an assist from Dustin Boone but it was not enough. The Cream Pies tied the game, and then proceeded to win the match in overtime.

So, after those identical scores, here go the NCSA hockey standings:
1 - West Phoenician Heatwaves - 2 wins
2 - The Cream Pies(c)                - 1
3 - Frijstaater Hedgehogs            - 1
4 - The Diddyland Freezers         - 0

And that concludes this extra-long news show.
Have a good night!

OOC: The ( c ) after a team's name in the standings means that they are the current champions.

Factbooks and National Information / Re: Post your states laws

The national Frijstaater parliament passed the "No Treason Act" in a 45-5 vote.  The 5 nays came from 3 Bergenländer and 2 Nordheimer representatives.

The bill affirms that;
  • The term 'treason' shall refer to beliefs, speech, and/or acts  intended to bring about the abolition of the Frijstaater state through peaceful and/or violent means.
  • No person may be charged with or convicted of the crime of 'treason', as this is a crime of conscience and all Frijstaaters have the right to a free conscience.
  • Persons having actively initiated acts of violence against others shall not be protected by this law and shall be tried in the courts of the land for their respective crimes against other parties.

Effects of this bill:
  • As treason was the last crime calling for capital punishment under Frijstaater law, this law effectively outlaws capital punishment.
  • Persons who would otherwise be charged with treason may only be charged for the crimes they have actually carried out, not those they espouse support for.

This bill was hailed by many as a positive step towards effective limitation of national government power in Frijstaat, as well as a solid protection of those who advocate radical change through nonviolent means.  Polling leading up to the vote in parliament showed 74% public support for the bill with only 14% opposed and 12% having no opinion on the matter.

The modern French Foreign Legion pretty much just takes volunteers and, of course, doesn't rely on colonialism, but it still exists and has fought in Afghanistan most recently.

It's a very strange thing but, essentially, any man of suitable age can, if they can get to France, find a gendarme and ask to join. They're taken to a recruitment center and assessed. If they're not disqualified based on the physical, they can join, and are permitted to change their name -- and not have any records of their previous identity kept.

They don't need to even speak French, since they're taught as part of the training. It's pretty much a way for desperate men to start a new life -- after, IIRC five years of service, they're discharged as French citizens and receive a pension.

Not surprisingly they're often a bunch of criminals or fugitives, though some are surely just adventure-seeking dudes, or have for whatever odd reason run out of options in their native country.

But historically, yes, it was troops from French imperial possessions/colonies. And a fictional version could be different.

But TL;DR the idea doesn't require colonies.

Here's a Chinese legionnaire in Afghanistan for ex. :

Anyway, @ Turkducken, I don't see any reason why an RP set in a country outside the NCSA couldn't be done. The only real restriction I know of there is that we can't claim territory outside the NCSA -- it doesn't mean the rest of the world is supposed to not exist, and I think it is assumed that States trade with foreign countries.

Because if we keep on fighting each other, we won't focus on the real threats outside. Or even be effective at making rational and timely changes to our government. This is why we need something else to worry about.

I think it would be quite cool if we had non player third world RPs with current problems I.e. Radicalisation, famine and drought and a good old civil war.
